After a very busy close to term two, term three is now underway with student’s enjoying catching up with each other after a lovely mid-year break.
Congratulations to the many students who achieved outstanding semester one results. Our upcoming College Assembly will provide the appropriate opportunity to recognise those students who have been awarded Achievement and Endeavour certificates for their semester one studies. Many thanks to all of the parents and caregivers who came along to our recent Parent Report evening taking time to speak with teachers about their son or daughter’s progress. Also I would like to thanks the parents who took time to participate in our P&C get together that also took place on this evening. Your involvement and commitment to the College is very much appreciated.
Term three is a ten week term comprising of a comprehensive block of time for all students to complete necessary course work and VET Units of Competency. Teachers have very clear expectations of what they require from each student and I have the very clear expectation that student will attend each zone, fully prepared and ready to engage and work hard. For our Year 12’s term three is a crucial time to complete course work before sitting final assessments and examinations.
Next week, staff and students are very much looking forward to welcoming Year 10 students from Yule Brook College and Cannington Community College to Showcase Day. Showcase Day provides prospective students, from our two feeder schools, with an opportunity to learn about all of the various courses and programs on offer at Sevenoaks. Our general courses e.g. Chemistry, Physics Psychology, English, Geography, History (and more), Trade Training Centre VET qualifications (Automotive and Metals and Engineering), additional VET courses such as Business, Information Technology and Hospitality, English as an Additional Dialect/Language and many others will be presented with students actively participating in a variety of activities throughout the day. Our 2016 prospective Year 11 students will also participate in a two day Orientation Program later in term four to further help them transition to the College.
Showcase Day will occur on Thursday 30 July 2015 from 10.40am until 2.00pm. Information regarding Showcase Day has been provided to Year 10 students from Yule Brook College and Cannington Community College.
Year 11 students who have not yet meet the On-line Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) requirements will be provided with another opportunity to take the various assessments from August 31 until September 4 2015. Students will be notified as to when they need to attend the College library to participate in the OLNA.
Finally, Year 11 and 12 students will continue to receive career counselling this term. Mrs Earl will be meeting with various groups of Year 12 students to ensure university and TAFE (training) applications are completed in anticipation of future career transitions. Canning Skills students will also receive career counselling with TAFE (training) opportunities being presented and discussed.
It is lovely to see everyone back and busy, enjoying their time here at the College. Remember that I am available to meet with parents and caregivers. Please contact the College reception to make an appointment.
