We would like to congratulate our Principal, Dr Karen Read, who has been named in the Australia Day Honours List with the award of: Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to cricket, and to secondary education.
Dr Read has been involved in cricket from a young age at club, state and international level. Dr Read represented Australia in cricket being a member of the national team from1982-86, significantly being a member of the 1982 World Cup winning team. She also captained the u/23 and u/25 Australian teams. Dr Read was inducted as a life member of the WA Cricket Association (WACA) in 2015 and followed this with being the second woman ever to be inducted into the WA Cricket Association Gallery of Greats, which is the highest honour the WACA can bestow upon a person.
Dr Read has also made significant contributions to secondary education for over 30 years. She has been a Principal at five secondary schools, a Director, and a Principal Consultant, all within the Department of Education. Dr Read is a Doctor of Education, focusing on senior school reform. The University of WA recognised her thesis in 2013 by presenting her with the Fogarty Award for Education Excellence.
Dr Read’s passion to make a difference in young people’s lives is always evident through her outstanding leadership and belief that all young people can succeed given the right environment and support.
